Admissions
Quick Facts
- Research-oriented, English-language master’s programme
- Commencement of studies: Winter Semester (beginning in October) or Summer Semester (beginning in April)
- No tuition fees
- Eligibility: Students in their final year of Bachelor's programmes are welcome to apply, even if you have not yet graduated
- Application Periods for German/EU applications
- For Winter Semester: until the end of the lecture period
- For Summer Semester: until the end of the lecture period
- For timely processing and smooth study planning (e.g. finding accommodation, planning your schedule, participating in orientation events), it is recommended to apply by July 15 for the winter semester and by January 15 for the summer semester.
- Application Periods for non-EU applications
- For Winter Semester: May 01 to July 31
- For Summer Semester: November 01 to January 31

Admission Requirements
Check whether you fulfill our admission requirements. If you fulfill our requirements you can be sure to receive a letter of eligibility (Zulassungsbescheinigung) for the Health Economics Master's program at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Our Master's program is designed for those who have graduated or are in the final year of a Bachelor's program in Economics or a closely related field. To be eligible for admission, you need ECTS credits in economics-related subjects and microeconomics/statistics/econometrics.
Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor of Economics (B.Sc.) or an equivalent or comparable course of study with a minimum grade of 3.0.

Equivalent degrees include:
- Business Administration
- Medical Management
- Business Informatics
- Industrial Engineering
- Business Mathematics
Economics as minor subject: Minimum of 48 ECTS in economics or related fields
Coursework
At least 24 ECTS (combined) in courses related:
- Micro-economics
- Statistics
- Econometrics
Each subfield must be covered
English Proficiency
For students with a German "Abitur": no further proof is needed
For students with Bachelor's degrees with language of instruction in English: no further proof needed
Regular proof: English language skills corresponding to Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Examples:
- TOEFL (Internet-based) 100
- TOEFL (Comp.-based) 250
- TOEFL (Paper-based) 600
- IELTS Band 6.5

Certifications or copies of the same are not required for the initial application, but you may be asked to produce them on admission
